This post is going to be pretty short, but I just wanted to say that if you’re a freelancer/entrepreneur/anyone selling services to clients, I definitely recommend reading Breaking the Time Barrier by Mike McDerment (co-founder + CEO of Freshbooks).
It took me less than an hour to read the whole thing, and it really rocked my mind when it came to thinking of my work as value-based rather than time-based. And that may seem incredibly obvious to some, but what really spoke to me in this book was that the service that I offer could be so much more than just setting up a site. I have the ability to combine all of my knowledge of content strategy, marketing, and analytics, and create a service that is unique to me, and really work as a partner with clients to create a site that will exponentially help grow their business (that’s the whole point, right?).
I love working with clients and creating a site that they love, but I know there’s so much more that I can offer as I continue to work on projects and build up my portfolio. This book helped put that into perspective and made the journey seem all the more challenging and exciting!
Check out the book* (it’s free, with the option to pay whatever you’d like after reading it). It will take less than an hour of your time, so I definitely recommend it. If you do read it, let me know your thoughts!
