I joined the Freelance to Freedom Facebook group awhile back. It’s amazing, and intimidating. These people really know their stuff. And not only that, they’re nice, and they’re helpful! Swoon. I’m a stealth member – typically watching from the sidelines, taking everything in, and peeking my head in occasionally to participate.
A few weeks ago, a member mentioned that her client needed some help with her website, and was on a smaller budget, so it might be a good project for a newbie.
I thought, “hey, that’s me!”
Then I thought, “a ton of people probably already messaged her, and they’re way better.”
BUT THEN I THOUGHT “EFF IT.”
I’m going to put my name in that bucket, dammit. So I did; I messaged the member, told her I’d be interested to help her client out, pointed her to my website so she could see what I’m about, and lo and behold, I was able to connect with her client, and help her with her website! Little ol’ me actually got the gig. I was blown away. After that, it led me to work on another project, which I’m currently in the midst of, and very excited about!
The point here is – put your name in the bucket. Even if you’re up against people who have the holy grail of awesome sitting in their lap. You have it too! (Tweet that)
It could work out just the way you want it. You could be the perfect person for the job, or the person who put in the most effort. You could win the gold!
Always put your name in the bucket.
