We all started our businesses because we’re passionate and driven about something. But that drive comes with the stress of being responsible for everything in our business.
If you want to offer a new service, there’s so much you have to do. It means:
- coming up with the idea,
- writing witty copy to make that idea appealing enough to want to buy it,
- laying out that copy with eye-catching graphics,
- figuring out how to format that page on your site,
- figuring out the e-commerce platform,
- beta-testing, etc.
Nothing is simple when you’re running your own biz!
It’s time to stop wasting your time on tasks that are not in your skillset/wheelhouse, because it’s costing you money, time, and clients.
If you were the boss at a mom and pop shop, you wouldn’t ask the pimply high school cashier to also do all of the accounting, right? They’d take 3x as long, and they’d likely muck it up enough that you’d need to hire an actual accountant with a proper suit to undo the damage.
Soooo don’t do development work if you don’t specialize in it or know how to do it right away.
Same way you don’t create a logo if your most recent piece of art was doodling a smiley face while on the phone.
All that said, this week I want you to pause to figure out how you can simplify that process. Next time you hit a point where you’re like, “I can’t even handle this!” consider who can handle it.
We’ve got more homework this week (I highly suggest doing with last week’s homework first if you missed it)!
This time, we’re going to go over your workload, and the ways you can delegate. Scratch that – the ways you NEED to delegate it. Today we’re going to take some of those heavy responsibilities off your shoulders so that you can focus on your passion instead.
And it’s all laid out for you in the Stressball Quit Kit Workbook (sign up below to download).
Get ready for more free time and client work, and less stress eating & drinking!
First step is to write down everything you do for your business. I’m talking every. single. task.
– writing up invoices
– checking emails from current clients
– responding to new clients
– tracking time
– laying out new pages on your website
– doing development work on your website
– attending a networking event…
You get the idea. Write it ALL down. I bet by the end, you’ll have the whole paper filled out, and you’ll realize, “holy shit, I need help.” You are not alone!
Second step is on the second page of the workbook.
You’re going to comb through every task you listed on the first page, and you’re going to divide them into 2 categories:
a) things that earn you money and you enjoy them
b) things that waste your time and/or you hate them
This part is pretty simple. Does writing out invoices earn you money? Maybe in a way, but not directly. Say in one week you’re writing 7 invoices, and they each take you about 15 minutes. No biggie when you think of each one as separate, but put together, that is almost 2 hours you spent wasting time NOT actually earning money. So, consider each task, follow your gut, and assign each one accordingly.
Almost done! This final step is where the relief comes in.
We need to figure out who we can hire to help us save a shit ton of time. Take a look at your “things that waste your time and/or you hate them” list and then write down each one in the left column, and the type of person you can delegate that task to in the right column.
To take the last step further, check out which one of the following professionals can free up your precious time. These professionals are personally recommended by me, and are people that I have had experience with or have worked with on some level, and highly trust them. The key point is to consider finding someone with these skills, because they will save you from hair and sanity loss.

Do you constantly wonder if you’re making the right choice? Should you spend your money on that Facebook ad? Why isn’t your newest sales package selling? A business coach can help you figure that out. I’ve worked with both of these ladies, and both of their tactics have brought me new customers.
Contact Halley Gray for a Strategy Session if this sounds way too familiar: “You’re in the midst of a launch that’s not going so well, you’re stuck writing your sales page, you need help with ideas for content to get people to buy this time.”

Design and logo work
Canva just isn’t cutting it anymore. It’s kind of buggy, you see other sites using very similar graphics because they also used Canva, and really, you’re spending a lot of time on this when you could be finding clients/doing client work/sleeping/etc. Get help on social media graphics, print pieces, overall branding, and more with one of these ladies (they’re really the bee knees).
Jess of Jess Creatives offers several packages that will get your business looking sharp, including her Brand Overhaul Package, Social Media Graphics Package, and more. Learn more about her services.

Sometimes we need an extra set of hands to help with the day-to-day tasks of invoicing, email checking, mail sending, etc. An intern or virtual assistant would be key for freeing up your time. I don’t have personal experience with a VA that I could recommend, but Facebook groups are a great way to find resources recommended by others.
Check out the virtual assistant Facebook groups.
